The PRSA Mid-Atlantic District and its members orchestrated the country’s fifth successful PRSA Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) district boot camp, April 10-12, 2019 in Harrisburg, Pa.

The boot camp attracted 13 APR candidates.

“Our district was the first district in the nation to sponsor an APR boot camp, and now we’ve conducted one five years in a row,“ said Liz Smith, APR, MBA, who spearheaded the boot camp during her term as Mid-Atlantic District chair in 2015 and continues to lead the boot camps on behalf of the district.

Smith served as a Day One boot camp trainer to prepare candidates for their afternoon panels.

Kathy Mulvihill and her staff from PRSA National reviewed applications, set up registration and organized panels.

“We had an outpouring of support from APRs from the Central PA chapter to serve on panels of three for each candidate,” Smith said. Amy Hill, APR, served as chapter host on behalf of the Central PA chapter and also served as a trainer for days two and three of the boot camp. Jason Kirsch, APR, who co-chairs the chapter’s APR committee, also served as a trainer on days two and three.

The Central PA Chapter has the best national APR trainers in the country and a wealth of APRs to serve as panelists, which made Harrisburg University an ideal location for the district boot camp.

“Together we are paving the way to increase the number of APRs in the Mid-Atlantic District and across the country,” Smith said. “Most chapters in our district do not offer APR training sessions, especially with national-caliber trainers, so there is a real need for the district boot camp,” she said.

Testimonial from new April 2019 APR:

The APR Mid-Atlantic District Boot Camp played a significant role in helping me achieve my Accreditation in Public Relations. Expert practitioners provide a very efficient way to prepare and study for the APR panel presentation and examination. Their insights, experience and support are invaluable during this process.
